Is Action A Critical Part Of Goal Setting?

Action is a critical part of goal setting. Without creating a vision you can not know what to do, and without the key action, you can not build your vision! This is important as most people don’t realize that a less clear vision, with the most action is more likely to produce results than having a vision which took years to create, but has very little action.

A house is built, and though the architect has a great plan on paper, we won’t see its splendor until you take action. So, action is important, and without it, we become like dreamers who can dream, but can not live it. To live it, you will need to build it.

Building something needs action, and generally a lot of it. If you have a lofty ideal, a vision in your heart, that is bigger than what many would take no action on, for you to live it, you will need to build.

Does Goal Setting Need To Be Complicated?

Everywhere in personal development books, seminars, and tape programs, you will find something mentioned on goal setting. In seminars countless people go and seminar after seminar, still have no progress to there goals. Does setting goals need to be so complicated?

In personal development we see these countless references to goal setting, and its importance. We understand why, after all without a vision, without a destination, how could we ever get there?

Seminars like in life, has similar principles. 20% are the movers and shakers, while the others are placid, and unmoving. In the seminar this rule holds true, however, on slightly different scales. Everyone in the seminar wants to achieve something, become something, do something, but 20% of the people in the seminar are the ones that are making the money, are achieving the success, are living the life of there dreams.

Time and time again, I see many people who goal set, seminar after seminar, new goals are brought out, and step 1 is found again. I realized this after many goal setting programs. I realized that you must be committed to that 1 goal or 2 or 3 goals perhaps, but you must stick with it or we find ourselves as the majority of the mediocrity we often find in society.

You can break out; you set goals and stick with them, until they are achieved. However, it is not as easy as that. Why does goal setting need to be so complicated! After all we are talking about my whole life. At this point, the procrastination factor kicks in, and we refuse to take action. After all it is planning the next decade, deciding on a meal is hard enough!

It does not have to be complicated. You have gone through life, and had many lessons, I am sure. Now, you must have an idea of what you like and what you don’t like. Goal setting and the process of setting goals should be streamlined, an easy process. The beginning may be hard. When you start you may want to give time to think about it, but this can work to your detriment.

A look at extraordinary good leaders shows us two things; the first is there ability to make quick decisions, and the ability to stick with those decisions in the presence of adversity. It takes time to achieve our goals, at least worthy goals and ideals.

Procrastination now leads to old man procrastination, and if you are reading this, I know that is definitely not a place you want to head to. However, with all the people in the seminars doing exactly that, there is no room to see the fruits that the speaker speaks about.

There is an ideal you, living life how you could only dream of. This person is living an extraordinary life of bliss, achieving goals, and ticking of there dream life to do’s. All you need to do is find that person. What does he or she look like? Now begin setting goals, and more importantly take consistent action now.

From Goal Setting To Goal Achievement

Sometimes we often think that goal setting is the only thing necessary to do, to achieve a goal. We hear of all the goal setting products, and wonder which work. Some do, however, this is not the only ingredients needed to achieve a set goal.

A look at the stats and you will see that about 7% of people goal set. Now this is not the kind of goal setting exercise you perform at New Year. You know those goal setting practices. Say your resolution to friends and family. In comes the New Year, and before February the set goal and any hope of its achievement is forgotten like the hangover!

Resolving to be different and learning about goal setting and how to set goals effectively will not necessarily help. Your first findings with how to set goals may show you to write them down. And this is a great way to start, but it does not determine the results you will get.

Achieving goals needs a few other ingredients than just writing them down. Getting from goal setting to achieving your desires is a process that can take time. If we take a look at those 7% of people who ever set goals, you will find that 2-3% actually achieve there goals. And 1% only ever achieves financial freedom, the kind that we often dream about.

How are you to curb the gap? In fact looking at the figures may make you weary. After all you may consider that out of every 100 people only 1 will get financially independent, and 3 people including that financially free person will ever achieve there goals.

Perhaps a different approach is needed. If we consider that the percentages of the goal setters are a 100% figure, then we can conclude that 50-60% of people achieve a goal they set.

You can curb that gap, and get into that 2-3% or even that top 1%, which with the new thinking is actually a 10% chance of succeeding at achieving the goal you set. Now this is the science part of goal setting.

And taking this further than just science to the art of achievement would be topics such as looking into your mindset, your beliefs, and your self image. Another is affirmations and visualizations, not to mention how you structure your goals.

I have seen many goal setting systems over the years. Most of the ‘how to set goals’ products never really do that, they just give you the big picture. This leaves having to look for all the pieces of the puzzle. Though each part can come together to help you with setting goals which ultimately turn to reality.

Together with these personal development goal setting products, an action orientated mindset is required. Simply writing down your goals takes you a long way from the simple New Years resolution, it helps you focus.
